I will Always Love You, Oma
Oma is the same meaning with grandmother. I call my
grandmother as Oma. She has seven children, my mother is the fourth. She helped
my mother to born me, because she is a midwife. She is still takes care of her
patients until at the end of her life. Oma is a part of my life, because I live
with her since I was child. Oma said that I am a better grandchild for her. That
statement is making me proud of have her.
Oma looks younger than other women in her ages.
She has a little wrinkled of white skin. It causes of Oma always cleans her face
with a cleaner every night before she goes to bed, also uses handbody lotion after
she takes a bath. A half of her hair is white. Unfortunately, she still uses coconut
oil to keep her hair in damp. She likes to use it, but I dislike its smell. She
uses a veil to close her hair everyday. She wears glasses which help her to see
the world well. Her body is a little fat, because she likes to eat snacks. In spite
of those, she is so beautiful for me.
There are some habbits that I like from Oma. First,
she loves to plant. She usually asked someone helped her to make a hole at the ground
to plant. In fact, there are many fruit trees around my house: manggo, banana, rambutan,
durian, and coconut. Then she likes cooking. Usually, she watches a cooking program
on Television and wrote it down on her book. Sometime, she practiced it together
with me. Around a week before the Lebaran's day, she always makes some cakes which
delicious taste. The last one, she reads a holy Qur'an after she did pray. Her voice
sounds good and made my heart touched. Thus, she is a religious person, I like that
one.
My grandmother likes to talk a lot with me. She ever
told about her childhood. At that time, Indonesia was get independence yet. So,
she scared about wars, because she and her family have to find the safety place
from colonizer. After Indonesia gets a independence, she become a good
traditional dancer, because she loves dancing and does a lot of excises. She usually
dances with her friend in front of Japan army. At the end of her performance she
got a lot of money by. After she finished tell me that story, she taught me to sing
a Japan song. That was a funny when I sang it, because I could not sang it well
like her. It was an unforgettable in my life.
One night around at 10, I almost could not breathe
when I got a bad news from my cousin. He said that Oma passed away. Directly, I
packed my things and a few minutes later he picked me to my boarding house at that
night to go to my hometown. I cried about four hours from Padang to Lintau. There
are a lot of people in my house when I arrived. Then I found her body is cold and
stiff. I hugged her and kissed her cheek. God, I hope she is in the best place of
yours and keep her safety there, amen.
Now, I continue my life without her. I have to be a
patient person. Something that I could not forget from her is when she cried of
me. It is always happen when I go back to Padang again. One day, she said that she
could not far away from me. It was the last day for me talked with her. Oma, you
are locked in my heart. I will remember for every moment which we did together,
also all of your advice to me. I miss it. (take me to be with you there...)
